Categories of Makeup Products

Makeup products can be classified broadly into 3 categories based on the usage area. These 3 categories are:

· Face Makeup

· Lips makeup

· Eye makeup

Of course, these categories are further sub-categorized which we are going to dive into next.

Face Makeup: Face makeup includes all those products that are applied on face skin and are aimed to mask the imperfections giving a flawless look. Let's check out what products are available for the face makeup category

· Primer: The first and foremost makeup product that you need to apply after cleansing and moisturizing your face is known as primer. It is applied to minimize the pores, minimize the wrinkles, lower the hyperpigmentation, smooth skin texture, and lower discoloration. The best feature of primer is that it helps in the longevity of the makeup. It is a comparatively new product serving the users from a few years and is considered as a skin prep product.

· Foundation: Also known as a base in some countries, the foundation is the most critical makeup item. It puts a cast on your skin offering you an even skin tone and brightening the complexion. The key is to use a right-coloured foundation that suits your skin tone and looks natural. Some people also prefer to mix 2 or 3 foundations to get the desired base on the skin. The foundation is available in the market in various forms including cream, liquid, powdered, or stick. It is also available in terms of the coverage it offers (light, medium, full. HD). You can apply foundation with a makeup brush, beauty blender, or fingers. The latest trend is to dampen a beauty blender and then merge the foundation evenly on your face to give a flawless appeal.

· CC cream: Color corrector or CC cream is also a fairly new product that is used to even out hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, and redness. You only need to apply a small amount of CC cream and spread it evenly on your skin to make it work.

· Concealer: Concealer is a must-have product that is applied after foundation (or CC cream). It helps to fine tune the dark circles, blemishes, pigments and other such imperfections. It is often thick as compared to the foundation which is why it is applied after foundation or else it leaves smudges. The key is to find a concealer one tone lighter than your skin shade to ensure that it blends in your skin flawlessly.

· Contour: It is applied after concealer to define certain features of the face. You can shape your face the way you desire with perfect contouring. The key is to blend the contour seamlessly into the skin.

· Blush: Blush is applied on the cheeks to add a nice color to your face. Usually, the blush is in red or pink shades but you can also find some shades of orange and brown. The blush gives a fresh and vibrant touch to your face. You can apply it with a brush and merge it into the skin. Some people also apply a bit of blush on the nose tip and chin to give a fresh and pink-toned touch to the face.

· Highlighter: It is a light-reflecting product that gives a shiny and radiant glow to the area it is applied. It is usually applied on high points of face or the features that you want to lift or highlight such as the center area of the upper lip, cheekbones, under the eyes, the inner tip of the eye, the center of the chin, nose bone, etc. Highlight is available in powdered, cream, liquid and stick form and can be applied with a brush, puff, or finger.

· Setting powder or compact powder: The previously used compact powder is replaced by a loose setting powder. No matter which one you use, both are used to absorb the excess oil of skin and offers it a flawless touch.

· Setting spray: It is the spray that is sprayed at the end of makeup to ensure that the makeup with stay for a considerable time.

· Lipstick: Lipstick is one of the most loved makeup products because it can truly change your appearance. Even if you wear only lipstick still then it still has the power to make you look brighter. Lipstick is made with waxes, oils, and pigments to give the right color and texture to lipstick. Lipstick application is quite easy. Nowadays you can also find permanent lipsticks that do not vanish and stay over for hours.

· Lip gloss: The lip gloss is a shiny, radiant lip color that reflects light and thus gives a glossy effect to the lips. It makes lips look plump and fuller along with an eye-catching shiny appearance. As oppsed to highly pigmented lipsticks, the lip gloss is not very long-lasting and might require reapplying.

· Lip liner: Lip liner available in the form of lip pencils is great for making your lipstick or lip gloss long-lasting. It enhances the shape of your lip by making an outline of the lip. After making the outline you can then fill in the lip with lipstick or lip gloss to get the perfect lip color.
